Three Ways To Turn Your Backyard Into a Winter Wonderland For An Entertaining Christmas!
“Winter is coming,” as they say in Winterfell. It’s that time of the year again when a white sheet of snow and ice cover every surface outside. But winter in the real world is full of love and happiness, unlike the one that the seven kingdoms in the Game of Thrones fear. The air grows cold, the temperature drops, and everything around you has an air of magic.
Winter is probably one of the most-awaited seasons of the year. With the cool weather and the urge of cuddling and keeping warm inside your home with a matching cup of hot chocolate or a cup of freshly brewed coffee, it’s probably an ecstatic feeling altogether.
Spending winter at home is one of the best things that you can do during the cold and chilly season. Spending time with your family is relaxing and exciting as it is. Although it’s common to spend winter outside — the usual options being trips to ski resorts or traveling to far off places with tropical weather to enjoy the heat instead — did you know that you can have a bit more fun in the winter even in the comfort of your own home?
Here are three ways you can turn your very own backyard into a winter wonderland which is perfect not just for the cold season but for the coming holidays, too!
Create Your Playground
When it comes to making your very own winter wonderland, it’s just like making your very own playground. If you’re planning to put it up in your backyard, using decorations and knick-knacks that coincide with the yuletide season is the right way to go. Don’t be afraid and extend your limits. For example, try and put up your very own snowman and don’t be too modest in its size. You can also put up a Christmas tree and cover it in a light sheet of snow to add to the winter atmosphere.
Use Christmas decorations in and around your backyard. Things don’t have to be extravagant! You can even make use of your creative skills and make your very own winter decorations. You can even turn this into a family affair and let your kids help out. Let them create their additions to your winter playground, so they will not only have fun but feel proud of having helped out, too.
Light It Up
One of the most essential things that promote the atmosphere of a particular theme is the lighting. Yes, lighting may not be so apparent during the daytime but when evening comes, that’s when they work their magic. What makes winter lighting so special is that the sparkling snowflakes add to the magical accent of your winter wonderland, making it seem like a whole new world (cue Aladdin and Jasmine, and the magic carpet of course!). When it comes to lighting, make use of Christmas lights which add to the festive aura of winter.
Using lights that have a yellow hue also helps since they add a contrasting glow to the white sheet of snow. If you’re feeling extra playful, why not add other colors? Lighting doesn’t just mean using the usual white, yellow or red — there are other colors to play around with, too. If you’re in the mood for a calm, chilly atmosphere, perhaps add hues of blues and green. If you have little girls in the house, build them a playhouse and add some pink hues. There’s no harm in getting creative with your lighting like you would your crayons.
Ice Shine Bright Like Diamond
Probably the most important thing in making your winter wonderland, ice should be a mainstay aspect in your backyard. Leave ice candles on the path to your backyard. You can make ice bubbles which kids will surely enjoy. Also, add a layer of snow to the ornaments around your backyard. This will create an illusion of frozen diamonds in your backyard. You can even create your version of egg hunting during Easter. Making egg-shaped ice cubes and let the kids have all the fun hunting for them.
Winter sure is chilly, but your holidays shouldn’t be cold as ice. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and get creative. After all, it’s not always that you have a chance to make your very own winter wonderland.
