Ye Is Losing All Of His Platforms

Kanye West, now called ‘Ye,’ is not one to shy away from controversies. Fans were shocked to see the downfall of one of the most praised rappers and how it all went down like dominos. Unsurprisingly, there is no one to blame except for Ye himself. Now, brands are taking a step back from the radicalized rapper, which has resulted in him losing not only his brand deal but most of his net worth as well. His brand ‘Yeezys,’ which was launched in collaboration with Adidas, came to a sudden halt after the company decided that it no longer wanted to stay associated with Ye.

What’s Going On?

It was during an interview with the CEO of the Conservative social network called Parker Chris Cuomo that Ye began talking about views. He started a rant about his provocative views, which stem from his anger towards the Jewish Executives, his desire to think independently – different from your everyday black celebrity narrative – and the fact that he believes that all black people are Jewish, which is why he cannot be branded as an anti-semite. During the interview, he even got aggressive when Cuomo pushed back on his statements, to which Ye responded with, ‘Are you going to give me a platform?’

This very statement shines a light on the fact that throughout Kanye West/Ye’s career, he has done nothing except go on to take the platform, whether they are his or someone else’s. West has always had his fair share of taking up spaces more than he should. It is everything that he has built his career on. However, there is a fine line between saying what’s on your mind and purposefully saying things that you know are bound to hurt someone. Whether it is George Floyd’s murder or Jewish folks, Ye has made sure to touch each topic with an extremely controversial take.

New Year, Not So New Ye

If you think of the fact that this has been Ye’s antics for years, why is it different now? There is a difference between jumping on the stage to steal the microphone from Taylor Swift to announce that Beyonce should’ve won the award and featuring ‘White Lives Matter in his fashion show. The only difference is the extremely conservative, right-wing political views that showcase his manic behavior. Previously, his career saw major achievements that would come after a grotesque attempt at making a statement, like the time when he announced support for Donald Trump or became hospitalized mid-tour. Like a faucet, Ye knows nothing but to make a scene.

However, for fans, companies, brands, critics, and even reporters, this has become old news, and everyone knows what happens when something becomes old news; it gets forgotten. Similarly, celebrities start to distance themselves from Ye, and so do brands, the same brands that once endorsed him and supported him throughout his career.

There is no kind way to say it, but there is not much hope for Ye to recover from this. People have managed to look past his shady past – maybe they might do it again.
