Kendall Jenner Finally Reveals Her ‘Big’ Announcement, But Fans Are Not Happy

When it comes to the industry’s biggest and brightest stars, everything they say can immediately gain traction – from baby announcements to engagements, to personal battles, most celebrities find themselves in front of the prying eyes of the public, who are all ears to what their idols have to say. No wonder why a lot of prominent personalities use their status to easily send a powerful message across.

Powerful Teaser

Such became the case with Kendall Jenner recently when her mother Kris Jenner, dubbed as the momager of the very popular and influential Kardashian-Jenner clan, teased that her supermodel child had an important announcement to make – and this wasn’t just some random thing that people casually blurt out, as most people believed and it seemed, because the matriarch made it sound so urgent and so crucial that everyone should listen to what the 23-year-old has to say.

Momager Kris Jenner helped create hype for her daughter’s announcement

In an Instagram post, Kris shared a video that showed Kendall in a stoic face, narrating that she was in a much different place, mentally and physically, at the age of 14 than she is now. In her words, she wasn’t able to reach as many people back then and she often struggled to express herself. Moreover, the white shirt-clad lady explained that she was just normal, pretty much like everyone else, which is why she’d like to tell everyone her story.

Sounds intriguing, right? Add to that the caption penned by Kris, in which she described her daughter as “vulnerable” and “brave.” Furthermore, the 63-year-old reality star made it sound like her daughter battled out something so massive and that the campaign will ignite a dialogue on the matter. Adding fuel to the already blazing fire, the announcement soon was picked up by most news and gossip sites and was also a hot topic on social media.

The ‘Big’ Reveal

Whatever she was trying to say in the clip, people had to take a guess. Did she suffer from a mental health issue? Did she have a health condition? Was she a victim of bullying? Everyone had the urge to take a guess. Note that the teaser came out a day before the Golden Globes Awards, so apart from the intense guesses on who would win in the event, Kendall’s big secret, described as her rawest and private story, added to the media frenzy.

It would be an understatement to say that everyone was at their feet, anticipating what was Kendall’s big secret that she allegedly never spoke off until now. And so, the day that was teased when she’ll reveal the story, which coincidentally was during the Golden Globes, came, and just like how Kris instructed to watch for the announcement on her daughter’s Twitter account, the Victoria’s Secret Model made the big revelation: she was the new face of Proactiv, a brand known for their acne skincare products.

Backlash

Lo and behold, Kendall and her mom received major backlash for the allegedly uber-hyped, overly teased partnership with Proactiv. To be fair, acne is a relatable problem and is all too real to dismiss but people slammed the mom-daughter duo for the anticlimactic revelation, because the celebrities described it as the “most raw” story of the model that will be told.

A lot of people didn’t find it tasteful while there were those simply disappointed, saying they thought it was the time when the reality family would step up, but instead used the “big announcement” for a collaboration. Majority of comments were from unamused people, who said Kendall could have just promoted in a not-so-dramatic way, which may have not fooled people into thinking there was something more. Others simply believe that she doesn’t even use Proactiv products because a celeb like her goes to high-end derma clinics to fix skin problems.

Kendall also faced serious backlash with a Pepsi ad two years ago, which touched on a sensitive issue

Maybe people are just waiting for something big, or they were just not expecting that Kendall would be opening up about her acne. Or, maybe fans had not learned their lesson with the model, who also faced a serious backlash with a Pepsi ad two years ago, which touched on a sensitive issue. As a result, the beverage company had to pull out the video just a day after it was released and issued an apology. The TV personality also said sorry to those offended by the commercial.
